Clarence Center to Buffalo for Physical Therapy

From the four corners of Clarence Center and Goodrich roads, the drive to Virginia Street takes about half an hour in light traffic.

Clarence Center Road and Goodrich Road cross at the heart of the hamlet, the spot locals call the four corners, and from there our Buffalo clinic is about half an hour away in light traffic. That half hour is the trip to plan for, because Lake Erie Physical Therapy provides physical therapy for Clarence Center, NY from a single Virginia Street location, close to the Medical Campus.

Around the four corners

Clarence Center is one of five hamlets the Town of Clarence recognizes. Its 14032 ZIP code reaches well beyond the four corners and covers most of the north part of town, so a Clarence Center address can be a few miles out on a back road. Our Clarence page covers the Hollow, Harris Hill and the rest of town. For school, the hamlet is Clarence Central territory: Clarence Center Elementary is one of the district’s four elementary schools, and older students move up to its middle school and then Clarence High School.

Pickleball on Goodrich Road

Pickleball has caught on in Clarence. In a 2022 column posted on the Town’s website, the town supervisor wrote that 20 to 30 players were on the town’s courts nearly every day once the snow melted, and that Clarence Rotary was bringing an outdoor tournament to Town Place Park on Goodrich Road that June.

The game looks gentle, but quick side steps, overhead smashes and hundreds of short volleys add up. Shoulder pain, an elbow that aches on the backhand or a calf that tightens after long sessions are worth an evaluation if they linger. One injury should go straight to a physician instead: a sudden pop, or the feeling of being kicked in the back of the ankle mid-rally, needs a medical exam before any therapy.

The Peanut Line runs through it

The trail through the hamlet follows the bed of the old Peanut Line, a New York Central route that once ran between Niagara Falls and Canandaigua. Within Clarence it runs from Transit Road to the Newstead town line, so from home you can head west toward Amherst or east toward Akron.

If a mile on the trail now ends with a sore hip or a limp, it’s worth getting checked. Hip pain can come from the joint itself, the muscles around it or even the lower back, and sorting out which is the first job when you sit down one-on-one with one of our owner Doctors of Physical Therapy.

Two or three mornings a week: physical therapy for Clarence Center, NY

In light traffic the four corners are about 31 minutes and 19 miles from our door by way of Goodrich Road, Main Street, Transit Road and the 33; rush hour adds to that. Because the first weeks of treatment often bring two visits a week and sometimes a third, a standing time such as 7 AM Tuesdays and Thursdays keeps the drive predictable, and your home program covers the days in between.

Ask about between-visit monitoring, too. Each home session you finish goes into the Medbridge GO app, where your therapist can see it and adjust the program without an extra trip down Transit Road.

Pick the mornings that suit you, then call (716) 332-4838 or tell us your preferred times online. Most plans don’t ask for a referral up front.

Which roads lead from Clarence Center's four corners to Virginia Street?

Take Goodrich Road south to Main Street and turn west. At Transit Road, head south to Genesee Street, which is also Route 33 and leads onto the Kensington Expressway into Buffalo. The commute hours will stretch the trip.

Should I stay off the Peanut Line while I'm doing physical therapy?

Not always. Often you can keep walking or riding, with the distance or pace adjusted while symptoms settle, and your physical therapist will give you a specific amount to aim for. Stop and call us if pain spreads farther down a leg or new numbness or weakness shows up.

I live in Clarence Center and have Medicare. Can I start PT without my doctor signing off first?

With most plans, Original Medicare among them, there's no referral to get first. Once we've evaluated you, the plan of care goes to your doctor, NP or PA for a signature, usually within 30 days. Medicare Advantage plans sometimes require prior authorization; a quick call to (716) 332-4838 lets us check yours before the first visit.
