Lake Ontario on the north, the Niagara River on the west: the Town of Porter fills the northwest corner of Niagara County. The Village of Youngstown sits at its western edge, Ransomville in its southeast corner, and the hamlet of Porter Center lies between them on Route 93. This page is about physical therapy for Porter, NY residents across the whole town, especially the lakeshore, Porter Center and the roads in between. Youngstown and Ransomville have pages of their own: see physical therapy for Youngstown residents and our Ransomville page.
What physical therapy from Porter, NY takes: Creek Road and a plan
From the middle of town, the quickest way south is Creek Road (Route 18), past the Lew-Port campus and into Lewiston. Route 104 and Military Road bring you to the interstate, and the 190 handles everything after that, Grand Island included. With clear roads that’s about 51 minutes and 34 miles each way.
That’s a real commitment, especially in the first weeks, when plans of care often call for two or three visits a week. Three things help keep the driving in proportion:
- Remote monitoring between visits. Through remote therapeutic monitoring, the exercises you do at home and any pain you notice get logged in Medbridge GO, so your program can change between appointments. When the clinic is this far from home, that contact matters.
- Exercises you can run yourself. The McKenzie Method, in which Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT is certified, puts much of the work in your hands. For many back and neck problems, doing more on your own can mean fewer trips in.
- Early and Friday hours. Tuesday through Friday, the first appointments of the day are at 7 AM, and Friday wraps up at 4 PM, so a session can come before work or ahead of the weekend.
Bluff trails, disc golf and Tuesday yoga
Four Mile Creek State Park, on Lake Road, has a nature trail for campers along its wooded bluffs and fishing in Lake Ontario. Uneven trail footing is a common way to roll an ankle; our page on foot and ankle pain covers what to do when one won’t settle. Porter on the Lake Park adds a disc golf course and a hiking trail, and the town posts maps for both.
Indoors, the town’s recreation program offers free yoga on Tuesdays at the Youngstown Village Center on Lockport Street: chair yoga in the morning and an all-levels class in the evening. If back or neck pain has been keeping you out of class, getting back on the mat is a fine goal to bring to your first visit.
Two ZIP codes, two school districts
Porter addresses use one of two ZIP codes: Youngstown’s 14174 across the western and central parts of town (Town Hall is at 3265 Creek Road, Youngstown) and Ransomville’s 14131 on the east side. School lines follow a different pattern. Niagara County’s school tax rates list two districts in the town. Most of Porter belongs to the Lewiston-Porter Central School District, whose campus sits just over the line in the Town of Lewiston, and roughly the eastern quarter, from the center of Ransomville north to the lake, is in the Wilson Central School District, served by Wilson High School.
Rides for Porter residents 60 and over
The Village of Youngstown runs a senior van for village and Town of Porter residents 60 and older, Monday through Thursday, and medical trips are among its purposes. Its published destinations are Niagara Falls and nearby areas, so if you hope to use it for appointments in Buffalo, check with the Village Office before booking, and line up a backup ride from family or a friend.
Wherever you live in Porter, the first step is the same: phone (716) 332-4838 or fill out our appointment request, and ask us anything about scheduling around the drive. For most plans, you can come in without a referral.
