You’ll see it spelled both ways. The resolution the New York State Senate adopted in January 2018 for the hamlet’s 150th anniversary calls it Lake View, while Pinehurst Elementary’s mailing address reads Lakeview, NY 14085. Either way, Lake View physical therapy at our clinic means a trip of about 28 minutes and 15.7 miles to 531 Virginia Street in Buffalo, so most of this page is about making that drive count.
Between Pleasant Avenue and Eighteen Mile Creek
Lake View, one of the Town of Hamburg’s hamlets, has Lake Erie to the west, Pleasant Avenue to the north, the Hamburg village line to the east and Eighteen Mile Creek along its southern edge. It began as a stop on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway; the Senate resolution credits the Myer family with founding it and notes that the first postmaster took office in 1868.
Most of the 14085 ZIP area, the lakeshore included, belongs to the Frontier Central School District, which runs Pinehurst Elementary on Fairway Court and sends older students on to Frontier’s middle and high schools. The inland stretch of 14085 nearest the village falls in the Hamburg Central School District instead, whose high school is on Legion Drive, so new residents should confirm their address with the district.
Six miles of shoreline before downtown
From Lakeview Road, turn onto Lake Shore Road (Route 5) and follow it north for a little over six miles along the water, through Athol Springs and past Woodlawn Beach State Park. Route 5 then becomes the Hamburg Turnpike and climbs onto the Skyway, and Franklin Street brings you to Virginia Street. Count on about 28 minutes with clear roads and more at rush hour or when lake-effect bands roll in.
Commuters can let NFTA’s Route 76 Lakeshore Express do the driving. It stops at Lakeview and Route 5 twice each weekday morning, reaching South Division and Washington downtown in a little over half an hour, and its afternoon trips leave North Division and Ellicott at 4:40 and 5:15 PM. From there, Metro Rail takes you north to the Allen/Medical Campus stop.
Making Lake View physical therapy work two or three times a week
Here’s the candid part. Physical therapy often starts at two or three visits a week, and from Lake View each round trip means close to an hour in the car. A few habits make that manageable:
- Attach visits to trips you already make. With 7 AM openings from Tuesday to Friday, a visit can slot in ahead of a workday downtown or on the Medical Campus.
- Let the exercises carry more of the load. Self-treatment is central to the McKenzie Method. Both owners work this way (Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT, earned the McKenzie certification, and Dr. Ryan Mitchell, PT, DPT, relies on it as his main approach), and that emphasis can mean fewer visits.
- Use the days in between. Remote therapeutic monitoring lets you record each home session in the Medbridge GO app, which gives your therapist a way to adjust the program between trips into Buffalo.
- Plan around the lake. When a snow band settles over the Southtowns, call early and we’ll move your visit rather than have you fight Route 5.
Ice on Lakeview Road, shale along the creek
The Town of Hamburg’s ice arena sits on Lakeview Road, offering Learn to Skate lessons, public skate sessions and hockey ice time. Skating asks a lot of the hips, knees and ankles, and a fall often lands on a wrist or shoulder. At the hamlet’s southern edge, Eighteen Mile Creek runs past shale outcroppings the town notes for their Devonian fossils, and that uneven, slick footing is an easy place to roll an ankle. If an ankle sprain keeps nagging weeks later, rehab that rebuilds strength and balance can help. An ankle you can’t put weight on, or a wrist that looks deformed after a fall, needs a medical evaluation first.
