Youngstown, NY Physical Therapy at Our Buffalo Clinic

For the village at the mouth of the Niagara River: the parkway drive to Buffalo, Lew-Port notes and ways to make fewer trips.

Old Fort Niagara has stood at the mouth of the Niagara River for three centuries, and the Village of Youngstown grew up just south of it, incorporated in 1854 within the Town of Porter. If you live in the village and want Youngstown physical therapy that works around a 31-mile trip to Virginia Street in Buffalo, here is how the drive, the schedule and the time between visits fit together.

Youngstown physical therapy, one parkway and one interstate away

The route is simple, though a plan of care tends to front-load the visits, two or three a week at the outset, so the parkway will see a lot of you early on. The Niagara Scenic Parkway, called the Robert Moses Parkway until its 2016 renaming, follows the river south to Lewiston. At Lewiston you pick up Route 104 and Military Road to reach the 190, and the interstate does the rest, across Grand Island and down into the city. With clear roads it’s about 44 minutes; rush hour and winter weather add to that.

The village’s own history notes that later subdivisions turned Youngstown into a bedroom community. If your day already includes a drive toward Buffalo, a 7 AM appointment, available Tuesday through Friday, can put therapy ahead of the workday rather than in the middle of it.

A Lew-Port village with Fort Niagara State Park next door

The whole village is Lew-Port territory, part of the Lewiston-Porter Central School District. Its four school buildings share a campus at 4061 Creek Road, which carries a Youngstown mailing address even though the campus is technically in the Town of Lewiston. Lew-Port’s teams include soccer, football and cross country.

Just north of the village, Fort Niagara State Park has 18 soccer fields, a swimming pool, woodland hiking trails and a boat launch onto the lower Niagara River and Lake Ontario, with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledding in winter.

  • On the soccer fields. Cutting, pivoting and awkward landings are how many ankle sprains and knee ligament injuries happen. If an ACL is involved, ACL rehab covers prehab, recovery after surgery and testing before a return to play.
  • At the launch and on the sled hill. Hauling a boat or towing kids uphill all afternoon can leave a back stiff for days. Here’s how we treat back pain.
  • Around the fort. A visit to Old Fort Niagara means a lot of walking, across open grounds and through buildings that are centuries old. If a hip turns that outing into a chore, our hip pain page explains where we start.

The McKenzie approach, 31 miles from the clinic

Both owners rely on the McKenzie Method: Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT holds certification in it, and it is the method Dr. Ryan Mitchell, PT, DPT reaches for first with backs and necks. The method teaches you exercises and positions for managing your own symptoms. Because so much of the work moves into your hands, it can mean fewer visits overall, which counts for more when each round trip is over an hour of driving.

Between appointments, you can log each home session in the Medbridge GO app, with a note on how it went, so we can fine-tune the program before your next drive down the parkway.

Tell us you’re driving in from Youngstown when you call (716) 332-4838 or ask for an appointment online, and we’ll suggest times that suit the parkway. For most plans, you won’t need a referral to begin.
