Lockport comes first. When you plan physical therapy from Gasport, NY, the quickest drive we mapped to our Buffalo clinic heads west on Rochester Road (Route 31) into the city of Lockport before turning south. Gasport is a hamlet on the Erie Canal in the Town of Royalton, ZIP code 14067, and Lockport is also where you can catch NFTA Metro’s Route 44. Below: the drive, the transit option and how to fit a few weeks of therapy around work, school and the seasons.
Physical therapy from Gasport, NY: Rochester Road, Transit Road, the 990
Route 31 takes you through Lockport on East Avenue and Walnut Street, and South Transit Street turns into Transit Road as you leave the city heading south. From there it’s Millersport Highway to I-990, then I-290 and a brief Thruway stretch to the Kensington Expressway (Route 33) for the final run into Buffalo. Without traffic the trip runs about 45 minutes; at rush hour, allow extra time.
In the first weeks, appointments often come two or three times a week, so the clock matters. On Tuesdays through Fridays the day begins at 7 AM, and on Mondays through Thursdays it ends at 6:30 PM, so you can come before or after a shift in Lockport or Buffalo. Whoever does your first evaluation owns the practice: it will be Dr. Ryan Mitchell, PT, DPT, or Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, working with you one-on-one.
If sitting through the drive is part of what hurts, say so. How you sit in the car can become part of your posture and activity plan, and our page on posture explains the approach.
Route 44 and Metro Rail, for days you can’t drive
NFTA Metro’s Route 44 connects Locust and Main in Lockport with University Station in Buffalo, traveling by way of Transit Road, Millersport Highway and UB’s North Campus. At University Station, transfer to Metro Rail heading downtown; the Allen/Medical Campus stop puts you about four minutes’ walk from the clinic. You’ll need your own way from Gasport to Lockport, so treat this as a backup, for instance during the weeks after surgery before you’re cleared to drive. Look up the day’s times at metro.nfta.com first.
Ravine trails, ball fields and the canal path
On Gasport Road just south of the hamlet, Niagara County’s Royalton Ravine Park has nature trails, waterfalls, a fishing pond and a ball field. The Erie Canalway Trail follows the canal through Gasport for walkers, cyclists and, in winter, cross-country skiers. Uneven paths are where ankles roll and knees complain, and a rehab plan should eventually get you back on them. Name the trail or field you’re aiming for at your evaluation, and we’ll build toward it. For sprains and other ankle problems, see our foot and ankle pain page.
Roy-Hart athletes
Roy-Hart’s elementary school is right here, on Orchard Place; middle and high schoolers head to Middleport. For Rams athletes coming back from a sprain, a strain or knee surgery, sports physical therapy means a gradual, tested return to practice. When heavy lifting isn’t safe yet, blood flow restriction training builds strength with light weights, and Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, holds Level 1 certification in it.
