There is exactly one Getzville in the United States, and it centers on a single crossroads: Campbell Boulevard at Dodge Road, where the volunteer Getzville Fire Company keeps Station One. The hamlet sits in the Town of Amherst, a few minutes north of UB’s North Campus, with its own 14068 ZIP code and a post office on Millersport Highway. This page is for Getzville, NY residents weighing physical therapy with us at Lake Erie Physical Therapy, where all care happens at one Buffalo address on Virginia Street. The expressways get you there in about 23 minutes without traffic, and a bus and Metro Rail combination works too.
Campbell to Millersport, then the expressways
Campbell Boulevard leads to Millersport Highway and Millersport leads to the Youngmann (I-290). From there it’s expressway: the 290 east, a brief merge onto the Thruway (I-90), then Route 33, the Kensington, into the city. Plan on about 15 road miles. Commuter traffic is heaviest at the start and end of the workday, so if your schedule is flexible, aim for a visit between the rush hours.
When a desk job near the North Campus hurts
Between a desk on UB’s North Campus or in the Crosspoint business park and a drive on the 290, some workdays add up to hours of sitting, and backs and necks tend to notice. The trouble often starts as stiffness and can spread into headaches or symptoms down an arm or leg. Problems like these are what a McKenzie Method evaluation is built to sort out. An MDT exam has you move in specific directions, again and again, while we watch what your symptoms do, and the response decides which exercises go back to work with you.
MDT runs through both owners’ work. Dr. Will Tso, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT adds formal McKenzie certification, and for Dr. Ryan Mitchell, PT, DPT the method is the core of his practice. Because the method is built around self-treatment, some people need fewer visits, which counts when every visit means the 290 in both directions. Read more about neck pain and posture.
Exercise is the wrong first step for a few symptoms. Weakness creeping into an arm or leg, numbness that keeps spreading, unsteady walking or balance, or pain alongside fever or unexplained weight loss should go to a physician first, and new bladder or bowel changes call for the emergency department. A doctor’s exam comes first in those cases; physical therapy can follow once the cause is clear.
Heim, Casey and North, with a Sweet Home stretch of Dodge Road
Every Getzville street in the Williamsville Central School District’s directory is assigned to Williamsville North High School, by way of Heim, Dodge or Maple West Elementary and Heim or Casey Middle. The exception is the low-numbered end of Dodge Road, which the Sweet Home Central School District lists as its own; if you live there, check your house number with both districts.
For a North athlete rebuilding a leg after surgery, heavy lifting may not be safe yet. With blood flow restriction training, a cuff around the thigh lets lighter loads build strength early on. Will holds Level 1 BFR certification, and every patient is screened before the cuff goes on.
Getzville, NY to physical therapy on Route 44 and the train
NFTA Metro’s Crosspointe Park & Ride, at 405 Crosspoint Parkway, is served by two routes. Route 44 links Lockport with University Station; it comes down Transit Road, follows Millersport Highway and passes UB’s North Campus. At University Station, board Metro Rail toward downtown and ride it to Allen/Medical Campus; Virginia Street is a four-minute stroll from the station. Route 64, the Lockport Express, also stops at the Crosspointe lot on its way to downtown Buffalo. If you already ride Route 44 to the North Campus, you can stay on to University Station. For other parts of town, see our Amherst page.
Wondering whether your neck or back is a McKenzie problem? An MDT evaluation will tell you; set one up by calling (716) 332-4838 or by requesting a time online.
